Your journey back through time in three stages
Compare past and present in a selection of 3D pictures showing famous Cologne landmarks and places of interest. The collection features original old stereoscopic photographs, which create an illusion of depth – just like the Kaiserpanorama viewers that were popular around 1900. For many people, these photo viewing apparatuses, were the first and only way of capturing vivid impressions of faraway places and exotic cultures.
In our cinema you travel through Cologne’s eventful history – from its start in the Roman era through medieval and imperial times to the present day. The documentary film produced exclusively for TimeRide VR will give you an overview in a concise and easy-to-understand format. At the end, there will be a short, humorous video tutorial explaining how to use our VR headsets.
3. Virtual Reality Experience
Highlight of the exhibition: In a replica of the first electric tram, you can fully immerse yourself in the living past using a virtual reality headset. Embark on our 15-minute tour through the old city of Cologne as it looked before both World Wars. Enjoy the 360° panoramic view sitting directly next to the tram driver. Feeling a gentle breeze and smooth vibrations of the tram, revelling in the sights and sounds of the past, you can admire not only the stunning architecture but become a witness of this time period with all its flair.
Get ready for an unforgettable experience!

Many families spend a lot of time thinking about what kind of activity they can do together. TimeRide VR Cologne is a top family attraction right in the heart of Cologne. Because we welcome all types of families – regardless of how many members, one parent or two, an only child or lots of siblings – our range of offers includes our flexible family ticket. This ticket can be booked for families with a minimum of three people (2 adults + 1 child or 1 adult + 2 children). There is the flexible option to add additional children’s tickets to the booking.
TimeRide VR is the ideal destination for a school trip or excursion. This immersive, multi-sensory presentation of the city’s historical life is especially beneficial for subjects like history, geography and german or for special studies of that period. Our VR ride is especially ideal for pupils at more advanced schools.
What makes TimeRide VR so ideal for incorporating into everyday school lessons?
TimeRide VR literally puts pupils right at the heart of history. Emphasis is placed less on directly transferring knowledge like during a school lesson, and more on giving pupils a realistic insight into past history and forging an emotional connection to historical contexts.
A school group ticket costs EUR 6.00 per person. An accompanying adult per eight pupils (e.g. teacher) is given free entry.
Are you looking for a birthday gift idea or planning your next association outing? In this case, TimeRide VR can give you and your group an unforgettable experience.
Groups of at least eight people will benefit from the cheaper group rate of EUR 11.00 per person.
If you would like to book one or more TimeRide shows exclusively for your group (for an additional charge), please contact our group hotline directly on
0221 9886 1185.
Please note that if you do not book exclusively, any remaining spaces may be taken up by other guests.
I wear glasses. Will I be able to wear the VR glasses?
Yes, in most cases. But please note the following exceptions: unfortunately, the VR headset does not fit over very large glasses like aviators.
Varifocals should be taken off during the ride or replaced with single vision glasses.
I get nauseous easily. Could this also happen to me during TimeRide?
Allow us to provide you with some reassurance – in hundreds of test rides nobody has ever been taken seriously ill. Our VR ride is relatively slow. The feeling of actual movement is achieved through effects such as vibrations and blasts of wind. This already eliminates the main triggers of nausea.
